Hailing from Anzoátegui, Venezuela, Daniel Hernandez is a highly-touted prospect known for his impressive offensive potential. Scouts project him as a potential power hitter with a strong hit tool (rated 55 on the 20-80 scouting scale). Hernandez possesses a physically promising frame with significant room for further development. While initially a third baseman, he has recently transitioned to the catching position. Many organizations believe he has the potential to be an above-average defensive catcher, boasting a fluid and compact swing that could translate well to the Major Leagues.
Hernandez is considered one of the top Washington Nationals international prospects that the team signed yesterday.

Nationals and outfielder Franchy Cordero agree to a minor-league deal

It was reported early evening yesterday that the Nationals and outfielder Franchy Cordero have agreed to a minor-league deal. Cordero, 30, has seen big league action in parts of seven seasons but spent last year with the Saitama Seibu Lions of NPB. Add another minor league signing to the National front office's growing list.
The big picture: While the Nationals front office has demonstrated a willingness to improve the roster this offseason, with shrewd acquisitions like Jorge López, Josh Bell, Amed Rosario, Trevor Williams, and Michael Soroka, and the trade for Nathaniel Lowe, the team's actions have fallen short of the "step on the gas" mentality promised by ownership and the front office.
